In Badminton, two time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and Indian men’s pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the pre – quarterfinals of the Singapore Open.
Sindhu defeated Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani 21-17, 21-18 in women’s singles yesterday. She will now face Japan’s Riko Gunji in the round 16 tomorrow.
In men’s doubles, Satwik and Chirag defeated American pair of Presley Smith and Chen Zhi Yi 26-28, 21-15, 21-13. They will now face Taiwanese pair of Lee Jhe-huei and Yang Po-han in the next round tomorrow.
India’s top badminton players, including Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, H. S. Prannoy, Malvika Bansod, and doubles pairs Swetaparna Panda and Rutaparna Panda, will begin their campaigns with the opening matches today. Mixed doubles pair Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila will also play their opening match today.
