In Punjab’s Municipal General Elections held yesterday, nearly 64% voting was recorded. The polls were held to elect representatives in 102 civic bodies, including 8 municipal corporations, 75 municipal councils and 19 nagar panchayats. Some clashes took place between the supporters of rival parties, but the State Election Commission confirmed that the polling process remained largely peaceful.
The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on 29 May. Meanwhile, dates for the conduct of elections to municipal councils of Dinanagar, Gurdaspur, Qadian and Sham Chaurasi in Gurdaspur district have been announced to be held on June 13th.
