Punjab’s Namitbir Singh Walia Becomes International Master in Chess

Punjab’s Namitbir Singh Walia from Jalandhar has become an International Master (IM) in Chess by securing the fourth overall position at the 3rd Annemasse International Masters Tournament in France, recently.
 
 
 
 
He began playing chess at the age of six. He started taking coaching at the age of seven in 2012 and played in the 7 category as well. Kanwarjit coached him till 2020, and then he went on to advanced coaching.
 
 
 
His proud parents, Arvinder Pal Singh and Satvinder Kaur Walia, are happy and are eagerly waiting for their son’s return home.
 
 
 
A student of Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi, Namitbir Singh’s chess record includes the Senior State FIDE Rating Open Chess Championship this year. He remains active at key international chess events.
 
 
 
Namitbir is the second from Punjab to achieve this accomplishment, after almost four years of Dushyant Sharm,a who made history as Punjab’s first International Master in February 2022. He was also initially coached by Kanwarjit Singh.
