As part of Durga Puja bonanza the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) increased the daily wages of contractual workers of the corporation by Rs 52. AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder in a press conference said on Tuesday that at present the contractual workers were getting Rs 248 a day. The wages had been increased to Rs 300 a day now.
The Mayor said there were 2163 casual workers employed by the AMC who included cleaning staff and drivers. And most of them were employed with the AMC for a long period.
Apart from that the women employees –417 of them—who were engaged in door to door garbage collection would get Rs 500 increase of incentives per month .
Along with it as many as 39 contractual employees’ salary was also increased by Rs. 3000 per month.
Majumdar said, an additional amount of Rs. 4,29,93,307 would be required to implement the decisions. The expenditure would be borne from the AMC’s own revenue.
The city father also dwelt in details about the AMC initiatives to make the ensuing Durga Puja a grand success and hassle free for the citizens. While there were several meetings with the puja organizing clubs the councillors were also holding regular meetings and discussion on Durga Puja.
“All required steps were taken in view of the Puja festival and we expect that the Puja will pass off peacefully with every citizen enjoying the festival”, Majumdar said,
Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta and AMC Commissioner Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav were present in the press conference held at AMC conference hall.
