Puducherry records 72.40% voter turnout as polling continues

Indicating the possibility of a higher turnout compared to the previous elections, Puducherry has recorded 72.40% polling till 3 PM today. In the 2021 Assembly elections, the Union Territory had registered an overall turnout of 83.42%.
 
Puducherry district’s 25 constituencies have recorded an average turnout of 72.71%. Karaikal district’s five constituencies have registered 70.80%.  
 
At the constituency level, Thirubhuvanai, where 11 candidates are in the fray, has reported the highest voter turnout so far, with 77.76% of electors exercising their franchise. On the other hand, Mahe, the enclave of Puducherry in Kerala, has recorded the lowest turnout at 59.39% till now.
 
Notably, 26 out of the 30 constituencies have already crossed the 70% mark by 3 PM, reflecting strong voter participation across the Union Territory. Election officials indicate that if the current trend continues, Puducherry may witness a record turnout, possibly exceeding 90%.
