A psychiatric patient turned murderous running amok and went for serial murders killing five persons- including a police Inspector in Khowai subdivision on Friday night
Pradip Debroy aka Kutti (40) who was suffering from serious psychiatric disorder and homicidal tendency all of a sudden went out of mind in last night at around 11 pm and picking up a shovel he attacked whoever fell in front of him. His first attack was on his family member—his daughters and wife Mira. While he gored the two daughters Mandira (07) and Aditi (01) with the shovel and killed them on the spot Mina somehow managed escape despite greveous injuries. She was later shifted to hospital where her condition was reported to be critical. He then attacked his brother Amalesh Debroy (45) and killed him too on the spot.
Pradip then rushed out of his home at Sheoratali and stopped an autorickshaw at Bir Choumuhani area where he attacked Krishna Das (45) and his son Karnadhir Das (22). While Krshina Das died on the spot Karnabir was seriously injured and shifted to hospital.
As soon as the report reached police Inspector Satyajit Mallik led a huge group of police and TSR personnel to capture the killer. But Pradip was still in a furiously homicidal mood and attacked the policemen who advanced toward him. Inspector Mallik- who was second officer of Khowai police station was fatally injured and he died on way to AGMC in Agartala. Several others were also injured in an attempt to overpower him.
Additional SP Rajib Sengupta said, ultimately policemen managed to overpower and detain Pradip and brought him to police station. But before that left a bloody trail of five deaths and several others injured . Pradip’s wife Mina and Karnadhir Das were reported to be in critical condition.
The incident triggered huge sensation and panic, but now the situation is well under control, though a sense of grief has descended in the area following the loss of innocent lives.
Inspector Satyajit Mallik (42) was originally a resident of Indranagar and he is survived his wife and four years old daughter.
Pradip’s family member confirmed that he was mentally challenged and was under severe spell of depression for the last few days.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb expressed his deep grief at the murder of the Sub Inspector Mallik and others. In a message he said “I am deeply saddened that Satyajit Mallick, the second officer of Khowai police station, was martyred in an attack by a madman while performing his duty with devotion. I wish the souls of all those killed in this incident rest in peace and speedy recovery of those injured. My condolences to the family,” CM Deb wrote.The Chief Minister also visited his residence in the afternoon.
Chief Minister announced that wife of the slain Inspector would be given government job and expenditure for the injured would be borne by the state government. District Magistrate of Khowai had aleady extended Rs 5000 at an instant help to the families. The state government would give Rs 1 lkah to each of slain’s family.
