Sajal Deb, president of the Kalyanpur Press Club, narrowly escaped a serious incident on Monday afternoon when a police department driver allegedly attempted to run him over with a one-ton truck. Deb and others were covering a story about Monoranjan Debnath, a driver from Teliamura police station, who was reportedly selling petrol from a police vehicle. During their coverage, Debnath allegedly started the truck in a desperate attempt to run over Deb. Fortunately, quick action from others at the scene prevented the incident.
Another driver from the police station, Haribal Debnath, was also present. Upon receiving the information, Kalyanpur police station officers rushed to the scene and recovered the sold petrol from a house where it had been stored illegally. The incident caused a significant stir, prompting the Kalyanpur Press Club to demand appropriate legal action against the driver. Both Monoranjan Debnath and Haribal Debnath were detained by the police.
Later the Kalyanpur press club members staged a sit in demonstration in front of the police station.
