Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticises PM Modi for neglecting Manipur and remaining silent on Trump’s India-Pakistan mediation claim. Kharge also questions Modi’s failure on PoK and foreign policy, urging Congress workers to defend democracy and constitutional values across India.

In a scathing critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused the Prime Minister of neglecting domestic issues, particularly the ongoing crisis in Manipur, while prioritising his international visits. Addressing village unit heads of the Congress party at the LB Stadium in Telangana on Friday, Kharge said Modi has found time to visit 42 countries, but not the violence-hit state of Manipur, where people continue to suffer.

“People are dying, women are being raped, homes are being burned in Manipur, yet the Prime Minister has not visited the state even once,” Kharge said, questioning the PM’s empathy and responsibility towards Indian citizens. “Are the people of Manipur not citizens of India?” he asked, adding that even Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had visited the troubled state to express solidarity with the victims.

Kharge lambasted Modi for remaining silent on a controversial claim by former US President Donald Trump, who stated that he prevented a war between India and Pakistan during his tenure. “Trump says he stopped a war between India and Pakistan. Why is Modi silent? He should have made it clear that India does not need a foreign mediator and is capable of defending itself,” Kharge remarked.

He also raised serious questions about Modi’s handling of Pakistan and the issue of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). “Modi keeps making grand claims about taking PoK. Then why hasn’t he done it? Indira Gandhi divided Pakistan in two. What’s stopping Modi?” Kharge asked, accusing the Prime Minister of misleading the nation with rhetorical speeches rather than decisive action.

Kharge was also critical of Modi’s foreign policy, alleging that under his leadership, India has become diplomatically isolated and surrounded by hostile neighbours. He said that Modi’s extensive foreign tours have failed to strengthen India’s global standing and instead diverted attention from pressing national concerns.

The Congress chief further slammed Modi for not attending the all-party meeting after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. He claimed that Modi only called the meeting after mounting pressure from the Congress. “Even after that, he didn’t meet leaders of the Opposition who had been sent abroad to defend India’s position,” Kharge said.

Turning to domestic issues, Kharge accused the Modi government of undermining democracy, neglecting law and order, and failing to fulfil electoral promises. He alleged that despite being in power for over a decade, Modi has damaged the economy and weakened the administrative framework of the country.

In contrast, Kharge praised the Congress government in Telangana for its performance, highlighting its implementation of welfare schemes for farmers, women, and marginalised communities. He pointed out that the government had already begun drafting legislation for the welfare of 4.5 lakh gig workers and conducted a comprehensive caste survey, making Telangana a model for inclusive governance.

Kharge also vowed to continue fighting for the Centre’s approval of a Bill passed by the Telangana Assembly seeking to increase reservation for backward classes to 42 per cent. He urged Congress workers to remain active at the grassroots level and take the message of social justice and constitutional values to every corner of the country.

Concluding his speech, the Congress President invoked the legacies of Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi, asserting that they sacrificed their lives for the nation. He questioned whether any member of the BJP or RSS had made similar sacrifices for the country, accusing them instead of avoiding struggles and issuing apologies.

“We are fighting to save democracy and the Constitution,” Kharge said, urging party workers to promote the message of “Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan” across every village and district in the country.
