Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the National Day celebrations of Mauritius as the Chief Guest today at Champ de Mars, Mauritius.

During the ceremony, the President of Mauritius, Dharambeer Gokhool, conferred the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean on Mr Modi for his stellar contribution to the India-Mauritius partnership.

Prime Minister Modi is the first Indian to receive Mauritius’ highest civilian award. An Indian Navy contingent took part in Mauritius’ National Day celebrations parade.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritius’ Prime Minister, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, held delegation-level talks, reviewing key areas of their bilateral partnership. Both leaders affirmed their commitment to upgrading ties to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership.

In a program held at the National Assembly, Mr Modi and Mr Ramgoolam e-inaugurated 20 High-Impact Community Development Projects and an India-assisted Area Health Centre. These initiatives will bolster Mauritius’ healthcare and grassroots infrastructure, bringing tangible benefits to the people.

Apart from this, eight MoUs were exchanged in areas including financial crime prevention, SMEs, public service capacity building, maritime security, and local currency trade. A navigational chart of St. Brandon Island was also handed over. Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to Mauritius’ development by announcing support for Phase II of the High-Impact Community Development Projects and the construction of a new Parliament Building for Mauritius.

Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Ramgoolam jointly inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation in Mauritius. It will serve as a hub for learning, research, and public service.

During his two-day visit to Mauritius, Mr Modi also offered prayers at the revered Ganga Talao and immersed holy water from the Triveni Sangam at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The Prime Minister has since left for home after successfully concluding his two-day state visit to Mauritius.
