Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha hailed the initiative as a major step towards strengthening farmers’ income and agricultural development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday released the 23rd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme from a programme held in West Bengal, transferring financial assistance directly into the bank accounts of farmers across the country. The initiative benefited millions of farmers nationwide, including more than 2.16 lakh farmers in Tripura who received a total financial assistance of Rs. 43.32 crore.

According to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, the latest installment under the PM-Kisan scheme has reached eligible farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency and timely financial support. Nationwide, a total of Rs. 18,880 crore was transferred directly to the accounts of 9.44 crore farmers, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and improving the livelihoods of farmers.

Dr. Saha virtually witnessed the release of the 23rd installment from the State Agriculture Research Station at A.D. Nagar in Agartala. The programme was also attended by Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, and senior officials of the Agriculture Department.

Expressing his satisfaction over the successful implementation of the scheme, the Chief Minister said the state government remains committed to increasing the income of farmers and ensuring their socio-economic development. He emphasized that the progress of farmers directly contributes to the development of villages, which in turn accelerates the growth of the state and the nation.

“An increase in farmers’ income leads to the development of villages. Developed villages pave the way for a developed state and a developed country,” Dr. Saha said while addressing the gathering.

Highlighting the significance of PM-Kisan, the Chief Minister noted that the scheme was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the objective of reducing the financial burden on farmers and helping them become self-reliant. He added that before the introduction of such welfare measures, many farmers faced financial challenges and depended heavily on loans for cultivation.

Dr. Saha also pointed out that since 2018, the state government has implemented several initiatives aimed at doubling farmers’ income and improving agricultural productivity. He informed that during the financial year 2018-19, around 1.51 lakh farmers in Tripura received Rs. 30.37 crore under the PM-Kisan scheme. Since then, both the number of beneficiaries and the amount disbursed have witnessed substantial growth.

The Chief Minister further highlighted various agricultural welfare programmes being implemented in the state, including the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Krishi Vikas Yojana, and other farmer-centric schemes. He stated that effective implementation of these programmes has contributed to higher agricultural production and improved income levels among farmers.

Referring to procurement initiatives, Dr. Saha said that more than Rs. 529 crore has been transferred directly to farmers through paddy procurement programmes. He also stressed the importance of improving soil fertility and informed that over 2.53 lakh Soil Health Cards have been distributed across the state.

He reiterated that both the Central and State governments will continue working together to improve farmer welfare, enhance agricultural output, and promote sustainable rural development.
