Yamir Ali, the Panchayat Secretary of Srinathpur panchayat under Gournagar Block, has been detained by the Irani police station authorities after an extensive search for his alleged involvement in the embezzlement of a substantial sum of money from various government schemes within the block.

According to Jatindra Das, the Officer in Charge of Irani Police Station, the case stems from a written complaint filed by Rameshwar Chakraborty, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Gournagar Block, on October 29, 2022. The complaint accuses Yamir Ali of misappropriating Rs 37 lakh from government funds designated for the establishment of 20 tube wells and other development projects in the block.

Following the registration of the case, Yamir Ali reportedly absconded from the area, eluding authorities for nearly a year. However, on Friday, law enforcement officers finally apprehended him at a poultry market situated under the jurisdiction of the Kailasahar police station. Subsequently, he was taken to the Irani Police Station for an initial round of interrogation.

On Saturday, Yamir Ali was presented before the court, where he was remanded to judicial custody and transferred to Kailasahar jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 26th.

The detention of Yamir Ali marks a significant development in the investigation into the alleged misappropriation of government funds, bringing the accused one step closer to facing legal proceedings for his alleged involvement in the embezzlement case.
