Renowned Hojagiri Nritya Guru, Padma Shri Satyaram, breathed his last at his residence in Dashami Reang Para of Santirbazar on Monday, leaving behind a legacy of cultural enrichment. He was 81 years old at the time of his demise and is survived by two sons and five daughters.

Padma Shri Satyaram was honored with the prestigious Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2021 for his exceptional contributions to the world of Hojagiri dance. His passion and dedication to preserving this traditional art form earned him national recognition.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, as well as numerous figures from the political and cultural realms, expressed their condolences over the passing of the Nritya Guru. Dr. Saha hailed Satyaram’s contributions, stating, “The demise of Padma Shri Satyaram Reang is an irreparable loss in the state’s cultural arena. His contributions in preserving the traditional Hojagiri dance along with Janajati culture and tradition will always be remembered.” The Chief Minister’s condolence message highlighted the significant role Satyaram played in safeguarding the rich heritage of the region.

Former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb also took to his social media platforms to convey his condolences, recognizing the cultural icon’s immense influence.

In a show of respect, a considerable number of individuals, including Vice-Chairperson of Santirbazar Municipal Council Satyabrata Saha, Deputy Director of ICA Ripan Chakma, and BJP leaders from the 36-Santirbazar Mandal, rushed to Satyaram’s residence to pay their respects. His passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy in the world of cultural preservation will continue to inspire generations to come.
