In an all-party meeting held on Saturday, Tripura’s political leaders, including CPIM State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury and Tripura Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha, urged the state government to implement a comprehensive resettlement plan for those affected by the recent floods.

The meeting, convened by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, was focused on evaluating the extensive damage caused by the floods and discussing strategies for future disaster preparedness.

Highlighting the devastating impact of the floods, Saha noted that the state has suffered an estimated loss of Rs 15,000 crore. He reported that around 1.5 lakh families have been displaced, with many taking refuge in relief camps, and approximately 4 lakh farmers have been severely affected.

During interactions with the media, Jitendra Chaudhury emphasized the urgent need for a structured resettlement process to help the flood-affected individuals rebuild their lives. He called for the immediate restoration of damaged homes and stressed the importance of learning from the recent disaster to better prepare for future calamities.

Both leaders proposed the creation of a future roadmap to address such unexpected events. Saha also suggested the formation of a special district-level committee, including representatives from all political parties, to assess the overall damage and ensure that aid reaches those in need, irrespective of religion, caste, or race.
