A conference between India and Bangladesh was held on 9th November at international border at Kamalpur on opening border haat. Delegates present in this high-level meeting were Additional District Magistrate of Dhalai district Mosalem Uddin Ahmed and Additional District Magistrate of Maulvi bazar of Bangladesh Rumana Yasmin.
Additional District Magistrate of Dhalai district Mosalem Uddin Ahmed informed that there are 1.36 Acre of Indian land and 1.36 Acre of Bangladesh land near 1903 no. pillar of Indo-Bangla international border and near134 no. border gate where 50 persons from India and 50 persons from Bangladesh can set up their market stalls. About 150 buyers can gather there from both the countries. One seller can sell products of upto maximum 200 Dollars. This border haat will remain open every Tuesday from 11am until 2.30pm. Each individual is supposed to bring their identity proofs. In this regard, Ambassa SDM and UNO of Kamalganj of Bangladesh will provide identity proofs. Indian government has granted 5 crore rupees for implementing border haat project. The sum will be invested through Tripura Industrial Development Corporation.
A Common Facilitation Centre will be set up soon at border haat of Kamalpur sub-division which will consist of a conference hall, treatment room, banker’s room for money exchange and separate lavatories for male and female. A joint border haat management committee has also been formed for management of this border haat. Additional District Magistrate of Dhalai district Mosalem Uddin Ahmed is the Chairman on behalf of India and Additional District Magistrate of Maulvi bazar of Bangladesh Rumana Yasmin is the Chairman on behalf of Bangladesh. Total 18 types of export items including fish and dried fish will be sold at the border haat.
