North Tripura celebrated the fifth anniversary of NEP 2020 with NIPUN Bharat Mission awareness programmes, promoting Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN). Schools, teachers, parents and communities participated in rallies, competitions and educational activities to strengthen foundational learning across the district.
Tripura’s North district observed the fifth anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 with a series of awareness and educational programmes aimed at strengthening Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) under the NIPUN Bharat Mission. The district-wide initiative brought together students, teachers, parents, School Management Committee (SMC) members and local community representatives to reinforce the importance of foundational learning at the primary level.
The programmes were conducted on July 28 in schools having primary sections across Kalacherra Block under the guidance of the District Education Officer (DEO), North Tripura. The initiative formed part of the district’s celebrations marking five years of NEP 2020 and sought to increase awareness about the objectives of the NIPUN Bharat Mission while encouraging effective implementation of FLN in schools.
According to officials, the Block Project Coordinator and Inspector of Schools of Kalacherra Block supervised cluster-level activities across seven Cluster Resource Centres (CRCs). While programmes were successfully completed in six CRCs on July 28, the remaining cluster was scheduled to organise its activities on July 30.
The celebrations witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large section of the education community. Officials stated that a total of 1,131 students, 108 teachers, 42 School Management Committee members, 159 parents and eight representatives from the local community took part in various awareness and educational programmes organised under the campaign.
As part of the celebrations, schools organised prabhat pheris, awareness rallies and community outreach programmes where students and teachers carried placards and banners highlighting the goals of the NIPUN Bharat Mission. The rallies aimed to spread awareness about the importance of developing foundational reading, writing and numeracy skills among young learners.
Several cultural programmes and educational activities focusing on FLN were also organised during the celebrations. Students showcased their talents through dance, singing, recitation, drama and drawing competitions, while Classes I and II students participated in a special NIPUN quiz designed to enhance their understanding of foundational learning concepts. Winners of the various competitions were recognised with prizes.
One of the major attractions of the programme was an exhibition and competition featuring innovative Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs). Teachers and students displayed creative FLN-based teaching aids designed to make classroom learning more engaging and effective. Officials said three schools were recognised for their outstanding presentations and innovative educational materials.
Parent awareness sessions formed another important component of the campaign. During these interactive sessions, educators discussed the crucial role families play in supporting children’s foundational learning and achieving the objectives of the NIPUN Bharat Mission. Parents were encouraged to actively participate in their children’s educational journey by creating a supportive learning environment at home.
Education officials said the district-wide programmes reflected the collective commitment of schools, teachers, parents and the community towards improving foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes. By strengthening awareness and encouraging greater public participation, the initiative aims to ensure the successful implementation of the NIPUN Bharat Mission and the broader goals of the National Education Policy 2020 across North Tripura.

Officials added that such awareness programmes are expected to contribute significantly towards building stronger foundational learning skills among children, ultimately improving the quality of primary education in the district. There was no immediate response from any other quarter regarding the initiative.
