North Tripura district administration signed an MoU with Tata Trusts initiative Centre for Microfinance and Livelihood (CML) to promote sustainable rural development, strengthen livelihoods, improve water security, support agriculture and fisheries, and enhance income opportunities for rural households across the district.
The North Tripura district administration on Monday signed a non-financial memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Microfinance and Livelihood (CML), an initiative of Tata Trusts, to promote sustainable rural development and strengthen livelihood opportunities for rural households across the district.
The agreement was signed by North Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Chandni Chandran on behalf of the district administration and CML Executive Director Madhabananda Ray at the District Magistrate’s office in Dharmanagar.
The partnership aims to support a range of development interventions focusing on livelihood generation, sustainable resource management and improvements in the socio-economic conditions of rural communities. Key areas of cooperation include springshed development, water security, fisheries, livestock, agriculture and allied activities, along with education.
Under the agreement, the district administration and CML will work together to encourage the sustainable management of water resources and promote activities that can help rural households diversify their sources of income. The initiative is also intended to strengthen livelihood opportunities and improve household incomes through interventions suited to the needs of local communities.
Water security and springshed development are among the key focus areas of the collaboration. Sustainable management of local water resources can support agricultural activities and help rural communities improve the availability and use of water. The proposed interventions are expected to contribute to a more sustainable approach to managing natural resources while supporting livelihood-related activities.
The partnership will also cover fisheries, livestock, agriculture and allied sectors, which play an important role in rural livelihoods. By supporting income-generating activities across these areas, the collaboration aims to encourage livelihood diversification and create opportunities for rural households to strengthen their economic stability.
Education has also been included among the areas of cooperation, indicating a broader approach to rural development that extends beyond agricultural and natural resource-based activities.
According to the agreement, coordination with relevant government departments and other stakeholders will be an important component of the initiative. Such coordination is intended to facilitate the implementation of development programmes, improve their reach and support the delivery of interventions to communities that need them.
CML will work with the North Tripura district administration and the concerned departments to support the proposed activities. The partnership is expected to bring together institutional expertise and administrative coordination to advance development initiatives across the district.
The non-financial MoU establishes a framework for cooperation between the district administration and CML, with an emphasis on inclusive rural development, sustainable resource management and improved livelihood opportunities.

The collaboration comes as the district administration seeks to strengthen coordination with development organisations and government departments to support rural communities. Its focus on agriculture, water security, fisheries, livestock and education reflects an integrated approach to addressing livelihood-related needs.
Through the partnership, the North Tripura district administration and CML aim to support sustainable development interventions that can contribute to improved household incomes and better socio-economic conditions for rural communities across the district.
