NIA conducts a late-night raid in Bishalgarh, Tripura, to arrest fugitive Anwar Hossain in an anti-national activities case. Searches continued for hours, surveillance has intensified, and further operations are likely as the investigation progresses.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out a late-night search operation in Tripura’s Sepahijala district in an intensified effort to trace a fugitive accused of involvement in alleged anti-national activities, official sources said on Wednesday.

The operation was conducted in the Karoi Mura area under Bishalgarh subdivision, following credible intelligence inputs suggesting possible familial connections of the accused in the locality. The wanted individual, identified as Anwar Hossain, is currently absconding and is facing serious charges under laws related to national security, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

A special NIA team, supported by personnel from Bishalgarh police station, launched the search after a special NIA court in Guwahati issued an arrest warrant against Hossain. The coordinated operation began late at night and continued for several hours as investigators combed through multiple locations believed to be linked to the accused.

As part of the search drive, the joint team inspected the residence of Manik Mia, the father of the accused, to ascertain possible leads regarding Hossain’s whereabouts. However, despite an extensive and methodical search, the fugitive could not be located.

Sources said Manik Mia was questioned during the operation and informed investigators that he had not been in contact with his son for a long period. He also claimed to have no knowledge of Anwar Hossain’s current location, adding that the accused had severed ties with the family long ago.

The late-night raid forms part of the NIA’s broader investigation into networks suspected of engaging in activities deemed prejudicial to national integrity and security. Officials indicated that the agency is actively pursuing multiple leads and has intensified surveillance in and around Bishalgarh and adjoining areas.

Following the operation, intelligence gathering has been significantly stepped up, with a particular focus on the accused’s known associates, communication trails, and potential hideouts. Security agencies are also monitoring movement patterns in sensitive pockets of the district to prevent any possible attempt by the accused to flee the region.

Although the NIA has not issued an official statement regarding the raid, sources confirmed that further search operations and follow-up actions are likely in the coming days. Investigators are said to be analyzing fresh inputs and technical evidence to narrow down the suspect’s movement and establish his current location.

The operation underscores the NIA’s continued commitment to tracking down individuals accused of anti-national activities and ensuring that those evading the law are brought to justice. Security officials reiterated that the agency would leave no stone unturned in executing court-issued warrants and dismantling networks posing a threat to national security.

Residents in the area reported heightened security presence following the raid, though officials emphasized that the operation was conducted smoothly and without disturbance to the local population.
