The North East Frontier Railway -NFR- conducted its one of the biggest rescue and evacuation operations since Sunday as thousands of people got stranded due to landslide and waterlogging in southern part of Assam connecting Tripura and Mizoram forcing abrupt cancellations of almost all trains. The most affected areas due to heavy rains and resultant landslips were places in between Jatinga Lumpur and New Harangajao, between Bandarkhal and Ditokcherra sections and other several locations in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section of Lumding division of the NFR.
Over 1,500 passengers were evacuated so far. “The stranded passengers of these trains are safe. All kinds of essential items like food and drinking water are being arranged by the railway authorities for them,” the NFR official said. Most of the stranded passengers were evacuated on Sunday from Ditokcherra by train while the remaining passengers were airlifted to Silchar by IAF choppers.
The evacuation also included helibund operations as the IAF choppers called to help. The IAF choppers flew in and took several sorties to pick up the stranded passengers.
In view of water logging and landslides due to heavy rain, services of several pairs of trains connecting Agartala with other parts of the country have been cancelled/ partially cancelled.
According to the NFR the cancelled trains included : Agartala – Anand Vihar Terminal Tejas Rajdhani express, commencing journey on 16th May, 2022 will remain cancelled between Agartala and Anand Vihar Terminal. Train No. 20502 Anand Vihar Terminal – Agartala Tejas Rajdhani express, commencing journey on 18th May, 2022 will remain cancelled between Anand Vihar Terminal and Agartala.
Bangalore Cant – Agartala express, commencing journey on 17th & 24th May, 2022 will remain cancelled between Bangalore Cant and Agartala.
Train No. 12504 Agartala – Bangalore Cant express, commencing journey on 21st May, 2022 will remain cancelled between Agartala and Bangalore Cant.
Secunderabad – Agartala express, commencing journey on 16th May, 2022 will remain cancelled between Secunderabad and Agartala.
Train No. 07029 Agartala – Secunderabad express, commencing journey on 20th May, 2022 will remain cancelled between Agartala and Secunderabad.
Deoghar – Agartala express, commencing journey on 23rd May, 2022 will remain cancelled between Deoghar and Agartala. Train No. 15625 Deoghar – Agartala express, commencing journey on 23rd May, 2022 will remain cancelled between Deoghar and Agartala.
Besides, several other trains were Partially Cancelled/Short Termination/Short Origination of Trains including Sealdah – Agartala Kanchanjungha express, commencing journey on 17th, 19th & 20th May, 2022 will be short terminated at Lumding and remain partially cancelled between Lumding and Agartala.
Train No.13174 Agartala – Sealdah Kanchanjungha express, commencing journey on 17th, 19th & 21st & 22th May, 2022 will be short originated at Lumding and remain partially cancelled between Agartala and Lumding.
Firozpur Cant – Agartala express, commencing journey on 16th May, 2022 will be short terminated at Guwahati and remain partially cancelled between Guwahati and Agartala.
Train No.14619 Agartala – Firozpur Cant express, commencing journey on 19th May, 2022 will be short originated at Guwahati and remain partially cancelled between Agartala and Guwahati.
Bangalore Cant – Agartala express, commencing journey on 20th May, 2022 will be short terminated at Guwahati and remains partially cancelled between Guwahati and Agartala.
Train No.02984 Agartala – Bangalore Cant express, commencing journey on 24th May, 2022 will be short originated at Guwahati and remain partially cancelled between Agartala and Guwahati.
