The Railway Board has accepted the proposal placed by the Tripura Government for running a Jana Shatabdi train in Agartala- Silchar route.

As per a request placed by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to the Minister of Railways, the matter has been examined by the railway and they found running of the train is operationally feasible.

According to NFR sources, one released ICF rake of 10 coaches is available and it can be utilized to introduce a new tri-weekly service between Agartala and Silchar.

At present, both the cities are connected directly by only 15663/15664 Agartala-Silchar Express (daily) which runs with 18 coaches. This service is very popular as there is no other service between the two cities.

As there is consistent demand from the government as well as representatives of various sections, the North East Frontier Railway has decided to run a Jan Shatabdi train on this route.

As per the letter under reference, Chief Minister of Tripura has also requested Hon’ble Railway Minister In this regard.

It is expected that the new train service would get very good response from the users as the proposal has been approved.

As per the tentative timing, the proposed Jan Shatabdi train would depart from Agartala at 6 am and reach Silchar at 10.30 am. On the return journey, the train would leave from Silchar at 5.30 pm and arrive at Agartala at 10 pm. The train would cover a 256-km distance in just 4 hours and 30 minutes at an average speed of 56.88 Kmph. The train would have stoppages at Ambassa, Dharmanagar, New Karimganj and Badarpur.
