Government of India declared 14th August as the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day to remind the present and future generations of Indians of the pain and suffering faced by the people of India during the partition. The partition of India is a story of unprecedented displacement of human and force migration of people. It is also a story of how a way of life and ages of co-existence came to a sudden end, forcing millions to sought new homes in environments that were alien and resistive.

The people of India, while celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, salute those sons and daughters of the country who had to sacrifice not only their ancestral home but lives also during the partition of India. Indian Railways has displayed exhibitions at 700 various railway stations spreading throughout the country to showcase the sufferings of the partition affected people.

With the rest of the country, N. F. Railway also observed the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav today. 75 prominent railway stations have been selected to commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence covering all the major districts of five divisions under the jurisdiction of N. F. Railway. The exhibition stalls displaying photographs of the pain undergone by Indians due to the partition of India in 1947 were set up for view of common people. Different programmes were also organised at the stations o­n this day showcasing the tragedy of partition with participation of freedom fighters and their kins. Good numbers of people visited the exhibition apart from rail users.Partitions pains can never be forgotten. Millions of Indians were displaced and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. N. F. Railway remembers the tragedy and millions of sacrifices on this day. The observance of this day will help reminding everyone of the need to remove social division, dis-harmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness.
