ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Saturday visited Nitai Dey who had been harassed by police on May 17 last.
Chowdhury, along with Mayor Dipak Majumder and Agartala Press Club Secretary Pranab Sarkar visited Nitai Dey, at his residence.
Nitai was harassed by College Tilla Outpost Officer-in-charge Arindam Roy on May 17 last. The OC, however, was later suspended by West District Superintendent of Police Bogati Jagadeeswar Reddy.
“Media is the fourth pillar of democracy. If we weaken the media and do not stand by it, we will not be able to strengthen our democracy,” Chowdhury told reporters following the interaction with Nitai Dey.
He said, our government is a media friendly government and we will stand by those involved in this profession.
Saha Alam selected as Chairman of Waqf Board
Experienced politician of Durgapur village Saha Alam has been selected as Chairman of Tripura State Waqf Board. The post was vacant for last two months after death of former Chairman and Agriculture Scientist Baharul Islam Majumder. Saha Alam said that nine out of ten members of the Board supported him for the post by voting for him. One member who was at remote place and could not participate in selection supported Saha Alam as Chairman.
Saha Alam, an experienced politician of Sonamura has passed the test of his eligibility as silent and sincere Karyakarta of the party during last 5 years after joining in BJP. He was seleted as State president of BJP Minority Morcha on May 11. Present Chief Minister offered him the appointment when he was state president of BJP. Now Saha Alam occupied the second post within 11 days of receiving previous post.
