In an inspiring example of rural entrepreneurship and sustainable agriculture, progressive woman farmer Jyotsna Nama from Satnala village under Dasda block in Tripura has been felicitated by the Tripura Regional Office of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for successfully establishing an integrated farming model that has transformed her livelihood and become a source of inspiration for farmers across the state.
Jyotsna Nama’s journey reflects how scientific knowledge, determination, and institutional support can empower rural communities. She joined the Deo Valley Farmers Producer Company Ltd. in April 2024 and participated in the Livelihood and Enterprise Development Programme (LEDP) on livestock, implemented by Growing Seed. The programme provided her with intensive training, technical guidance, and continuous mentoring, enabling her to adopt modern farming techniques while effectively utilising traditional agricultural practices.
Following the training, Nama developed an integrated farming system across her four kani of land by combining multiple agricultural activities, including poultry farming, goat rearing, dairy farming, fishery, vegetable cultivation, and paddy production. This diversified approach has helped her create multiple income streams while reducing farming risks associated with dependency on a single crop or enterprise.
Her integrated farming model has delivered remarkable economic results. By efficiently managing the interconnected farming activities and utilising available resources, she now earns a net annual profit of approximately ₹2.5 lakh. The success of her enterprise demonstrates the effectiveness of sustainable and scientific farming practices in improving rural livelihoods while ensuring long-term agricultural resilience.
Recognising her outstanding contribution to agriculture and rural development, NABARD’s Tripura Regional Office felicitated Jyotsna Nama on July 15, 2026, during celebrations marking the International Year of the Woman Farmer and NABARD’s 45th Foundation Day. The honour acknowledged her achievements as a model woman farmer whose innovative farming practices have set an example for others across the region.
Officials and local stakeholders believe her success story will motivate more farmers, particularly women, to adopt integrated farming systems that combine agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and horticulture for improved income and sustainable growth. Such diversified farming models not only enhance profitability but also strengthen resilience against climate and market-related uncertainties.
Growing Seed, the implementing agency of the LEDP programme, welcomed the recognition and expressed gratitude to NABARD for its continued support in promoting rural livelihood development.
