Agartala Government Medical College and GBP hospital has got modern Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology facility, officials say. This wing of the AGMC will provide treatment and surgical intervention for critical and complex cardio vascular diseases. The new wing has been housed at sixth floor of NTH building-1.

 Some sophisticated and state of the art equipment have already been installed in the new department.

Functioning of the department has already begun from July 13 last with OPD services. Eminent cardiologist Dr. Kanak Narayan Bhattacharjee, in-charge of CTVS and IR Radiology unit and cardiovascular surgeon, is attending the OPD patients.

So far, total 63 patients had availed the OPD service in the new unit till August 6 last. The OPD functions on every Tuesday and Thursday from 1 pm to 4.30 pm and the Interventional Radiology OPD remains open on every Wednesday from 1 pm to 4.30 pm.

Meanwhile, one 10-bedded ICU and two separate 10-beded male and female wards of the new department are under construction.

An initiative was already made to recruit required staff. The government was working to introduce Open Heart Surgery and Bypass Surgery.
