Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath stresses empowerment and self-reliance for Divyangjan at the 76th Social Adhikarita Camp in Mohanpur, highlighting RVY and ADIP schemes and the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized the importance of empowerment, dignity and self-reliance for persons with disabilities, or Divyangjan, while highlighting the government’s welfare initiatives for senior citizens and persons with disabilities at the 76th Social Adhikarita Camp held at South Taranagar Gram Panchayat in Mohanpur.
The camp was organized under the Government of India’s Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) and Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP) scheme. Addressing the gathering, Nath said the government is working to ensure that the benefits of development reach every section of society and that no individual is left behind.
Nath stressed that Divyangjan should not be viewed merely through the lens of sympathy or assistance. Instead, he said, the focus should remain on creating opportunities that enable persons with disabilities to become self-reliant and participate fully in society.
“Not sympathy, but empowerment and self-reliance are what Divyangjan need,” Nath said, highlighting the approach associated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for strengthening the dignity and capabilities of persons with disabilities.
The Minister said the RVY and ADIP schemes represent important measures aimed at improving the quality of life of senior citizens and Divyangjan. Such programmes provide support and assistive resources intended to help beneficiaries overcome challenges in their daily lives and improve their independence.
Nath also called for greater social sensitivity and collective responsibility toward persons with disabilities. He stressed the need to create awareness about government schemes so that eligible beneficiaries can access the benefits without unnecessary difficulties or obstruction.
During his address, Nath also spoke about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s political journey and the welfare initiatives introduced during his tenure. Referring to Modi’s journey from a modest background to becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat and subsequently serving at the national level, Nath highlighted what he described as a long period of public service.
The Minister cited several central government initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, which expanded access to formal banking services and enabled direct transfer of government benefits to beneficiaries. He said such initiatives have helped reduce dependence on intermediaries in accessing welfare support.
Nath also referred to the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which expanded access to LPG connections among households, particularly benefiting women, and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which focused on sanitation, hygiene and cleanliness.
He further highlighted government efforts in areas such as housing and drinking water, stating that these initiatives have contributed to improving basic living conditions for ordinary citizens.
Returning to the theme of the Social Adhikarita Camp, Nath reiterated that senior citizens and Divyangjan must remain an integral part of inclusive development. He said ensuring access to welfare schemes and assistive support is essential for strengthening their independence and dignity.
The Minister maintained that awareness among communities and effective implementation of welfare programmes are crucial to ensuring that government assistance reaches genuine beneficiaries. He called upon all stakeholders to work together so that vulnerable sections of society can benefit from available schemes.

Nath reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive development, saying that the benefits of development should reach every household and every section of society, including senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
