Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Meenakshi Lekhi, undertook a comprehensive three-day tour of Tripura, engaging in a range of activities and interactions aimed at assessing and promoting various developmental initiatives in the state.

During her visit, Minister Lekhi inspected Unakoti, a prominent tourist destination known for its rock-cut carvings. Expressing admiration for the beauty of Unakoti, she revealed that the site has been nominated for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

In addition to exploring Unakoti, the Minister dedicated time to review the progress of the Agartala-Akhaura international rail link project at Nischintapur. Engaging in discussions with officials from IRCON, Railways, and the Border Security Force, she sought updates on the status of the crucial infrastructure project.

A pivotal aspect of her trip involved a comprehensive review meeting held with district officials and Tripura’s Sports Minister, Tinku Toy. The meeting focused on assessing the implementation status of various Central schemes and developmental projects in the region.

Further extending her interactions, Minister Lekhi engaged with members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the Gournagar block of Unakoti district. During these discussions, she highlighted the efforts of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government in promoting socio-economic development. Emphasizing the success of the Jan Dhan Yojana, she noted the substantial increase in the number of bank accounts for rural women since 2014.

Touching upon the theme of women empowerment, Minister Lekhi underscored the central government’s commitment to making women self-reliant through initiatives such as Self Help Groups (SHGs). She pointed out the government’s special focus on empowering women economically and fostering their independence.

The Minister’s itinerary also included visits to notable landmarks such as the Albert Ekka War Memorial, Ujjayanta Palace, and Kaman Chowmuhani. Additionally, she inspected a border check post at Kailashahar and Srirampur, reinforcing the government’s commitment to ensuring border security.
