The Andro Village of Manipur has been conferred the prestigious award of one of the Best Tourism Village in Heritage category in the 2024 edition of the Best Tourism Villages Competition organised by the Ministry of Tourism. The Ministry facilitated officials of Manipur Tourism and representatives of Andro Village at an event held at the Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday during the celebration of World Tourism Day 2024.

Andro village’s unique cultural heritage and traditional practices have been a major factor in its selection as the Best Tourism village in the Heritage category. The village has a temple which showcases the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region. The village’s unique cultural heritage includes the centuries old fire worship which attracts tourists from various parts of the world thus contributing income and employment generation to the local people. The villagers of Andro have adopted several strategies to engage the local community in promoting and sustaining their heritage while also involving them in tourism activities.
