A magisterial probe was ordered into the death of Jamal Hossain of Balerdhepa area in the custody of Sonamura police station on the night of September 15.

 Additional District Magistrate, Sepahijala- Subhasis Bandhopadhyay would conduct the probe.

 On Thursday, Superintendent of Police, Sepahijala- Krishnendu Chakravertty along with Addl. SP Ranadhir Debbarma visited Sonamura police station and held discussions with Office-in-Charge Nandan Das regarding the custodial death.

 On the other hand, TMC leader Subal Bhowmik accompanied by others first met the deceased’s family at their residence in Balerdhepa and then visited Sonamura police station. He demanded a fair investigation into the sensational incident.

The deceased- Jamal was arrested by Sonamura police on Tuesday night at around 1 am from his residence. He was brought to Sonamura police station. After some time he complained of chest pain and was then taken to hospital from where he was referred to Melaghar Hospital.

 In Melaghar hospital after initial treatment as Jamal was feeling better, he was brought back to Sonamura police station and put behind the bars.

On Wednesday morning, when police went to wake him up, they found him dead inside the lockup at around 7 am.
