Residents of Teliamura subdivision have raised serious concerns over the allegedly poor quality of road construction on National Highway 43 between Atharamura Hill and Chamalcherra, accusing Nitin Sai Construction Company and the State Public Works Department (PWD) of substandard work.

The construction firm, Nitin Sai Construction, had been awarded a Rs. 216 crore road construction project on the national highway in the subdivision.

However, locals claim that within just two months of commencing the project, the road has deteriorated significantly, turning into a potential danger for travelers. Massive potholes and asphalt erosion, made worse by the recent rains, are highlighted as hazards to motorists.

Accusations also extend to the PWD engineers engaged in road maintenance, with locals alleging that the road repair work involved applying a low quantity of bitumen over cement, leading to poor durability. Furthermore, residents claim that certain PWD officers and engineers accepted substantial amounts from Nitin Sai Construction in exchange for subpar work.

The locals urgently seek government intervention to address the alleged irregularities and ensure the construction company and PWD adhere to quality standards for the safety of road users.

At a time when both the central and state governments are emphasizing improved connectivity through road infrastructure, the reported shortcomings in this construction project raise concerns about the efficacy of ongoing initiatives.
