Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan, today highlighted that loans worth over 11 lakh crore rupees have been disbursed to women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) through formal financial institutions under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). The Rural Development Ministry in a statement said that Mr Chouhan termed this milestone as a reflection government’s strong commitment towards inclusive rural development, financial empowerment of women, and fostering self-reliance at the village level. Appreciating the role of the banking community, he noted that Banks and Bank Sakhis are playing vital role in turning the dreams of millions of rural women into reality.
The Minister said that central government initiatives like DAY-NRLM and Lakhpati Didi are transforming the economic status of millions of women in rural India. He said that this achievement symbolises collective strength, demonstrating that when women are provided with opportunities, trust, and resources, they have the potential to lead the country to new heights of self-reliance.
