Lalu Prasad Expels Son Tej Pratap from RJD and Family, Citing Breach of Values
In a striking political and personal decision, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has expelled his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from both the party and the Yadav family for six years. The decision, announced via the social media platform X, stems from what Lalu described as Tej Pratap’s “irresponsible behaviour” and disregard for the principles upheld by both the party and their family.
“Moral lapses in private life undermine our shared struggle for social justice,” Lalu wrote. “My eldest son’s actions and public conduct are inconsistent with our values. Therefore, he is being removed from all roles within the party and our family. Going forward, he will have no place in either.”
Lalu also noted that it would be left to individuals to decide whether or not they wished to maintain a personal relationship with Tej Pratap. “He is mature enough to assess the consequences of his choices. Those who choose to keep ties with him must do so of their own accord,” he stated.

The dramatic move follows the circulation of photos and a video showing Tej Pratap with a woman named Anushka Yadav. One widely shared image showed her performing Karva Chauth rituals for him, and reports suggest the two have been in a relationship for over a decade. The couple only recently made their relationship public, catching both family and party members by surprise.
Sources close to the family say Lalu Prasad was deeply disturbed by the sudden and unconsulted public revelation, which reportedly came without any prior discussion within the family.

Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap’s younger brother and Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, addressed the media following the announcement. “Personal and political lives are separate matters. My elder brother has the right to make his personal choices, but we learned about this situation through the media, just like everyone else,” he said.
Tejashwi emphasized the importance of public responsibility. “As public figures, we are expected to uphold a certain standard of conduct. We cannot endorse actions that tarnish the party’s image or erode public trust.”
He also backed Lalu Prasad’s decision, stating the party was united in its support: “Our party president has made his position clear. We stand by his decision.”
Tej Pratap Yadav, currently an MLA from Hassanpur and a former Environment and Forest Minister, has often been at the center of controversy, known for unpredictable remarks and unconventional behavior. His troubled marriage with Aishwarya Rai and frequent conflicts within the family have long been a source of public speculation.
