Khowai Police announced strict law-and-order measures, intensified anti-drug drives, increased night patrolling, and tougher surveillance to curb crime and ensure public safety following the ADC elections in Tripura’s Khowai district.

A stronger policing strategy is set to be implemented across Tripura’s Khowai district as the police administration announced a series of strict measures aimed at maintaining law and order, curbing criminal activities, and strengthening public safety in sensitive areas following the ADC elections.

The announcement was made on Saturday by Bogati Jagadishwar Reddy during a press conference held at the conference hall of the Superintendent of Police office in Khowai. Senior police officials, including Justin Joseph, were also present during the media briefing.

Addressing reporters, the Khowai SP stated that a high-level review meeting had been conducted on Wednesday with all Officer-in-Charges and senior officials from various police stations across the district. The meeting primarily focused on reviewing the post-ADC election situation and evaluating security preparedness in vulnerable regions.

According to the SP, special emphasis was placed on the law-and-order conditions in areas under Baijalbari, Champahowar, and Mungiakami police stations. Concerned officers were instructed to intensify surveillance, strengthen intelligence gathering, and ensure prompt responses to any incidents that could disturb public peace.

The police administration also reviewed detailed crime statistics from the last one year covering six police stations — Khowai, Kalyanpur, Teliamura, Baijalbari, Mungiakami, and Champahowar. During the meeting, each Officer-in-Charge reportedly submitted comprehensive reports highlighting major criminal cases, local crime trends, and actions taken within their respective jurisdictions.

Dr. Reddy claimed that Khowai district witnessed a nearly six percent decline in overall crime during the 2025-26 financial year compared to the previous year. He further stated that serious criminal offences also showed a noticeable reduction. Although three murder cases were registered during the period, the overall rate of serious crimes reportedly dropped by nearly 30 percent.

Traffic regulation and rising road accidents were also discussed extensively during the review meeting. The SP informed that police teams are conducting regular naka checking, highway patrolling, and traffic surveillance operations on national highways and other busy routes to reduce accidents and improve road discipline. Awareness campaigns are also being organized to educate drivers and commuters about traffic safety measures.

On the issue of narcotics, the district police reiterated its tough stand against drug trafficking and NDPS-related offences. The SP said continuous anti-drug operations are being carried out across the district to dismantle illegal networks and prevent the spread of narcotics. He claimed that nearly 400 kilograms of ganja were seized by Khowai district police during the past year. Surveillance against inter-state drug trafficking syndicates has also been intensified significantly.

The police administration further announced that a zero-tolerance approach toward criminal activities would be strictly enforced in the coming days. Night patrolling will be intensified in sensitive zones, additional monitoring systems will be deployed, and strict legal action will be initiated against offenders involved in unlawful activities.

He urged citizens to actively support the administration by sharing information, cooperating during investigations, and working collectively to preserve harmony and security across the district.
