The state of Tripura paid glowing tribute to the ‘Rebel Poet’ Kazi Nazrul Islam on the occasion of his 125th birth anniversary with a series of cultural and commemorative events organized across its various subdivisions. The day was marked with floral tributes, literary discussions, cultural performances, and a renewed call to embrace Nazrul’s timeless message of unity, patriotism, and social justice.

Kumarghat: Cultural Harmony in Kanchanbari

In Kumarghat, the celebration was hosted at the Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat under the joint initiative of the Sub-divisional Information and Cultural Affairs Office and the Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat. The event, themed “Srijone Chhonde Anonde” (In Creation, Rhythm, and Joy), brought together local dignitaries, cultural enthusiasts, and members of the public.

Unakoti Zilla Parishad President Amlendu Das, inaugurating the program, remarked, “Rabindranath and Nazrul are the guiding lights of our intellectual and cultural consciousness. Nazrul, through his stirring poetry and prose, ignited a sense of patriotic fervor and empowered common people with his revolutionary vision.”
Retired teacher Jadulal Roy also addressed the gathering, highlighting Nazrul’s unwavering commitment to justice and equality. The welcome address was delivered by senior Information Officer Subhasis Sengupta, while the session was presided over by the Deputy Chief of Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat, Bhuban Sinha. The event was attended by several notable figures including Unakoti Zilla Parishad member Anjali Sinha, Panchayat Samiti member Nipul Das, and social worker Tarun Kanti Das.
The cultural segment included heartfelt renditions of Nazrul Geeti and traditional dances by local artists.

Kamalpur: Honoring the Spirit of Resistance

In Kamalpur, the birth anniversary was observed at Syed Chowmuhani, Baligaon, in collaboration with the Kamalpur Nagar Panchayat and the Sub-divisional Information and Cultural Affairs Office. The program began with floral tributes to the poet’s portrait by Chairperson Prashanta Sinha and senior cultural officer Amrit Das, along with representatives from various cultural organizations.
Speakers elaborated on Nazrul’s fearless voice against oppression, his role in India’s freedom movement, and the inclusive ethos of his literary legacy. The event also featured performances by local artists, who brought Nazrul’s revolutionary compositions and expressive lyrics to life through music and dance.

Teliamura: Tribute Through Art and Service

The Kavi Nazrul Vidyabhavan in Teliamura served as the venue for the local celebration organized by the Sub-divisional Information and Cultural Affairs Office. The event was graced by Teliamura Municipal Chairperson Rupak Sarkar, Vice Chairperson Madhusudan Roy, Panchayat Samiti Vice Chairman Nirmal Sutradhar, and senior officer Mithun Dutta, among others.

Following floral tributes to the poet, the dignitaries delved into discussions about Nazrul’s contributions to literature, secularism, and patriotism. Students from local schools performed Nazrul Geeti, poetry recitations, and choreographed dances, paying artistic homage to the poet’s legacy. In a gesture of compassion reflecting Nazrul’s humanitarian values, fruits and sweets were distributed among patients at Teliamura Sub-divisional Hospital.

Udaipur: A Symbol of National Consciousness

At the Rajarshi Hall in Udaipur, the celebration was inaugurated by Gomati Zilla Parishad President Debal Debroy. He described Nazrul as “a symbol of humanism and nationalism, whose ideals united the people of India during the freedom movement.”
Other prominent speakers included MLA Jitendra Majumdar, Udaipur Municipal Chairperson Sheetal Chandra Majumdar, and Deputy Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department Ajay Dey. The event began with a ceremonial garlanding of Nazrul’s portrait and was followed by discussions and cultural performances.

Santirbazar: Community Engagement Through Culture

In Santirbazar, the birth anniversary was observed at the Jolaibari Community Hall, organized by the Sub-divisional Information and Cultural Affairs Office. Attendees included Jolaibari Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Tapas Dutta, Municipal Vice Chairperson Satyabrata Saha, South Tripura Zilla Parishad member Shambhu Manik, and social worker Sujit Dutta.
All paid floral tribute and offered reflections on the relevance of Nazrul’s legacy in modern times. The event was presided over by Nepal Chandra Das, Chairperson of the Sports and Culture Committee of Santirbazar Municipal Council. Local artists performed a variety of Nazrul’s works through song, poetry, and dance.

Sabroom: Tribute Amidst Nature

Sabroom’s observance took place at the picturesque Nazrul Park, organized jointly by the Sabroom Municipal Council and the Sub-divisional Information and Cultural Affairs Office. The program was inaugurated by Municipal Chairperson Roma Poddar Dey, with key participants including Satchand Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Prabhas Lodh, and social worker Tapas Lodh.
Well-known author Ashokananda Ray Bardhan added a literary depth to the program, while Municipal Council member Ranjit Roy Chowdhury presided. The local artistic community honored the poet’s legacy with soulful recitations, songs, and dances.

Across Tripura, the birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam was not just an observance of the life of a poet, but a reaffirmation of his ideals—fearless expression, communal harmony, and undying love for the motherland.
