Two-day workshop on Child Rights Protection and Childcare for officials of Police department, Social Welfare & Social Education department, District and Sub-Division administration and different social workers has started Thursday. Tripura High Court Judge and Chairman of Juvenile Justice Committee Subhashish Talapatra inaugurated the workshop.
Speaking on different legal matters of child protection, he said, there are many stray children in our society who at different places such as train station, bus stop or populated market areas get involved in different criminal activities. Children may get involved in serious crime even staying in a family for which the family members are also not prepared. But in many cases, the children are not responsible for that. Only they become the victims of the situation. They get involved in crime due to bad effects of the society. Therefore, they are not criminals according to Juvenile Justice. Advices are given to turn them from wrong path to right path in Juvenile court which is why they are kept in home to counsel them. They are not treated as criminals there. He said, all these matters will be elaborately discussed in the workshop.
Chairperson of Tripura Child Rights Protection Commission Nilima Ghosh said, our children do not take birth being criminals. The society makes them criminal which is why it is our duty to protect their rights.
