In a sharp critique of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), CPI (M) MLA and Left Front leader Jiten Choudhury slammed the recent demolition drive in South Ramnagar, near Border Golchakkar. The bulldozing, carried out under the BJP-led AMC, displaced numerous families, leaving them without shelter and sparking widespread outrage.

Choudhury, accompanied by a team of Left Front leaders, visited the affected area to interact with families now residing in the open. He labeled the AMC’s actions as “inhuman” and a violation of a Supreme Court order, demanding accountability from officials involved in the eviction.

Highlighting the plight of the residents, Choudhury said, “These people have lived here for over 40 years. Their homes and shops were demolished with only 15-20 days’ notice, without alternative arrangements. They are legal citizens, regular taxpayers, and have actively contributed to the city’s civic life.”

He further emphasized the essential services provided to these residents by previous governments, including water, electricity, and LPG connections, noting that the sudden eviction left them helpless.

Choudhury voiced the community’s demands for government-led rehabilitation and employment opportunities, adding, “The affected families are willing to cooperate, but they need shelter and work to survive. No government should act so heartlessly.”

The Leader of Opposition urged the government to prioritize humane solutions, ensuring those displaced are not left homeless in the name of development.
