Japanese delegation visited the North District of Tripura to explore the state’s thriving agarwood industry, marking a significant international interest in this valuable commodity. The visit, organized by the All Tripura Agar Association, was accompanied by officials from the Central government and Tripura Forest Departments. Key figures of the delegation included Kei Otsuki from the Embassy of Japan, and Fujiwara Hidenobu from JICA India.
The tour began with an inspection of an agarwood shop at Dharmanagar Railway Station, followed by a visit to an agarwood plantation in Kadamtala, where they planted five saplings. The group also toured industries in North Fulbari, known for producing agarwood chips, wood, and oil.
Kadamtala Block, recognized as the state’s top agarwood producer, received special praise for its contributions to both Indian exports and global markets. After visiting the Mamun Agar Industry, the delegation expressed satisfaction, noting that Tripura’s agarwood has garnered significant attention, not only in India but globally.
Anfar Ali, Secretary of the All Tripura Agar Association, emphasized the strong support provided by both state and central governments, with nearly Rs 400 crore allocated for agarwood development. With substantial exports already made to Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, and the Middle East, the team remains optimistic that future exports will expand with continued government backing.
