Agartala, Nov 12: The present Tripura government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to safeguard the culture, language and tradition of every community of the state, Chief Miniter Dr Manik said on Saturday.
After inaugurating a three-day international conference on Chakma language, script and culture at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala on Saturday, Dr Saha said, “Development of language, script and culture is essential for safeguarding the existence of any community.”
The Chief Minister said, Chakma community is one among the 19 tribes and their sub-tribes in the state and this community is marching ahead in all fields including education and culture.
Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Santana Chakma, who was present at the inaugural session, said that besides loving one’s own culture and tradition, the culture, tradition and language of other communities should also be respected.
No community should forget their own culture and language, she said adding, it is the responsibility of the people of the respective communities to protect their culture and language.
The conference has been organized by International Chakma Sahitya and Sudom Jodha (ICSSJ) in collaboration with DHUDUK (cultural organization).
The welcome address was delivered by Amitabh Chakma. MLA from Mizoram Budadhan Chakma and Debjan Chakma were also present.
The Chakma people residing in various other countries also joined the international conference in virtual mode.
