Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda today said last year the country achieved a remarkable milestone by performing nearly 18 thousand nine hundred transplants, the highest in a single year. Addressing the 15th Organ Donation Day in New Delhi, the Minister said, in 2023, more than three lakh citizens pledged to donate organs through the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO). The Minister also underscored that India ranks third globally in organ transplantation. He highlighted that organ donation is one of the most noble practices of humanity. Mr Nadda said each organ donor is a silent hero whose selfless act transforms grief into hope and loss into life.
During the event, the Minister also felicitated the families of various organ donors and recipients of different organs. Mr Nadda also released NOTTO’s Annual Report, e-Newsletter and three awareness booklets on Organ Donation Awareness, Organ Health through Ayurveda and Yoga, and Best Practices by States.
