India creates history as two doubles teams enter finals for 1st time

In table tennis, India has made history at the WTT Star Contender 2025 in Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil, today, with two Indian doubles teams reaching the finals, a first for the country in this tournament.
 
In mixed doubles, top seeds Manush Shah and Diya Chitale reached the final after a dominant 3-0 win over Chile’s Nicolás Burgos and Paulina Vega in the semifinals. They will face Japan’s surprise qualifier pair, Satoshi Aida and Honoka Hashimoto, in the final.
 
In men’s doubles, India’s top-seeded pair Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah also reached the final. They defeated Chinese Taipei’s Huang Yan-Cheng and Kuo Guan-Hong in a thrilling semifinal 5-11, 11-9, 11-6, 8-11, 11-5. They will now face Germany’s second seeds, Benedikt Duda and Dang Qiu.
 
In women’s doubles, Manika Batra and Swastika Ghosh reached the quarterfinals but lost to South Korea’s Joo Cheonhui and Lee Eunhye.
 
India’s singles players are still competing. Manika Batra has reached the round of 16 in women’s singles, while Harmeet Desai and Manush Shah have advanced to the same stage in men’s singles.
