The State Government launched Income Generation and Infrastructural Development programme at Barkanthal Bazar at Mohanpur in West Tripura for the welfare of Janajati people of the State. The initiative will be implemented under the Special Economic Development Package of NLFT (SD) by the Janajati Welfare Department.
Minister of Janajati Welfare department of Government of Tripura Mevar Kumar Jamatia formally inaugurated the initiative on Monday.
“Tripura Government has taken up various new initiatives for the socio-economic development as well as overall welfare of the Janajati Communities of the State. As a part of this initiative, Janajati Welfare Department has organized the launching programme for extending benefits to ST beneficiaries for income generation and infrastructural development in different activities”, Mevar Kumar Jamatia said.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India released funds for an amount of Rs.40.00 cr. out of total project proposal under Special Economic Development Package for development of Janajati people of Tripura as per the Memorandum of Settlement (MRS) signed between the Government of India, Government of Tripura and NLFT(SD).
According to a Government press release, 242 poor Janajati families would get financial help of Rs 1 lakh each for Areca nut plantations. Power tillers would be given to 50 families at an expenditure of Rs 1 Lakh 50 thousand per family. For goatery farming, 400 families would get Rs 70 thousand each. Another 400 families would get the same assistance for poultry farming. A total of 150 families would get Rs 1 lakh 50 thousand each for Dairy (cattle) farming. Besides, for Pisciculture related activities, 90 families would get Rs 2 lakh each.
Moreover, assistance would be given for infrastructural development including the construction of a 10-bedded Hospital at Borakha under Jirania at an expenditure of Rs 2 crore. A vocational training centre and hostel would be set up at Gorkhabasti in Agartala at an expenditure of Rs 50 Lakh.
Among others Chairman, BAC of Lefunga RD Block Ranabir Debbarma and president of NLFT (SD), Sabir Kumar Debbarma were present in the programme.
