In a bid to create a drug-free Tripura, the state police launched a special drive from April 19 to 25 and seized various contraband items worth Rs. 2.6 crore. According to an official release from Tripura Police, 245 individuals were arrested during the drive.

During the anti-drug drive, the police seized 388 grams of heroin, 2034 kgs of dry ganja, 5404 Yaba tablets, 1724 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, and nine vehicles. The total estimated market value of the seized items is Rs. 2,51,30,875.

The police conducted 1064 raids, searched 53,294 vehicles/trains, registered 50 cases, and organized 375 awareness programs during the week-long special drive. The drive was aimed at curbing the sale and distribution of drugs in the state and creating a drug-free Tripura.

Tripura Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, took to social media to applaud the efforts of the state police and their commitment to creating a drug-free Tripura. The police force’s commitment towards “Nesha Mukt Tripura” was praised by the Chief Minister in his post.

The state police have been conducting several anti-drug operations and awareness campaigns in the state to curb the drug menace. The recent special drive has shown that the police are serious about creating a drug-free Tripura and will continue to take stringent actions against drug peddlers and traffickers.

Another report said , Police in Tripura conducted two separate raids and seized brown sugar, arresting two individuals in connection with the drug trade. The first raid was carried out by the North District Superintendent of Police, Bhanupada Chakraborty, who searched passengers on the Silchar to Agartala train. During the search, a soap bar was found in a passenger’s bag which contained 14 grams of brown sugar. The police estimated the market value of the drug to be more than one lakh rupees. In the second raid, police and TSR forces raided Mithun Acharya’s house in Panchmukh area and recovered 13 grams of brown sugar kept in 150 vials. Mithun Acharya was arrested and a case was taken up against him under the NDPS section. The police are investigating to find the main masterminds involved in the drug trade. The police are taking effective action against drug dealers in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies such as GRPF, RPF, Assam Rifles, and BSF.
