The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Friday has called 24-hour nationwide ‘withdrawal of services’ of modern medicine doctors on Saturday to protest against the rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor in R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata as well as vandalism at the facility following a protest demonstration.
The IMA in a statement has said that essential services would be maintained and casualty would be manned while OPD would not function and elective surgeries would not be conducted by the doctors.
The IMA statement jointly signed by its national president Dr RV Asokan and secretary general Dr Anilkumar J Nayak has said, the withdrawal of services would be in force across all sectors wherever modern medicine doctors were providing services. The call for the nationwide withdrawal of non-emergency medical services was taken after a meeting with state branches of the IMA.
The IMA has condemned the vandalism at the Kolkata hospital where doctors have been protesting since August 9 evening following the alleged rape and murder of the woman medic.
