A one-month driving training programme under IGDC–CREFLAT was launched at IDTR Tripura to skill 40 youths from Dhalai and North Tripura, promoting employability, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental responsibility through structured vocational training.
A one-month professional driving training programme for 40 youths under the Integrated Green Development Corridor–CREFLAT (IGDC–CREFLAT) Project was inaugurated on Thursday at the Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) in Tripura, officials confirmed.
The skill development initiative aims to enhance employability among rural youths by providing structured, professional driving training while simultaneously promoting environmental awareness. Participants have been selected from Dhalai and North Tripura districts, regions identified for targeted livelihood development under the IGDC–CREFLAT framework.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, R K Samal. During the inaugural ceremony, Samal symbolically watered saplings on the IDTR campus, underscoring the project’s emphasis on environmental responsibility alongside vocational skill development.
Addressing the gathering, IGDC–CREFLAT Project Chief Executive Officer and Project Director S Prabhu stated that the training programme was designed to equip youths with market-relevant skills that could open pathways to sustainable employment. He encouraged participants to take full advantage of the state-of-the-art training facilities available at IDTR and explore long-term livelihood opportunities emerging from the transport and logistics sector.
Dr Vincent Darlong, a member of the DCTA Project Management Committee, briefed the trainees on various development activities being implemented under the IGDC–CREFLAT initiative. He outlined the objectives of the driving training programme and explained how skill development, environmental conservation, and inclusive growth were interlinked within the broader project framework.
Chief Inspector of Motor Vehicles Dibakar Das praised the initiative for integrating local youths into a structured and professional skill development ecosystem. He urged the trainees to view driving not merely as a job but as a potential long-term career, particularly in sectors such as commercial transport, public services, and logistics, which continue to witness growing demand.
In his address, R K Samal highlighted the importance of engaging young people in sustainable livelihood activities, noting that economic empowerment plays a crucial role in environmental protection. He stressed that forest conservation and responsible resource use are essential strategies for addressing climate change challenges, especially in ecologically sensitive regions like Tripura.
