Ideal journalism is necessary for running ideal government to build a prosperous Tripura. Media and the state will only prosper when positivity is practised and negativity is addressed through internal discussions of the media, said Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in the National Press Day celebration programme yesterday at Rabindra Bhawan organised by Information and Cultural Affairs department in association with Agartala Press Club. Senior journalists and photo journalists of the state were felicitated in the programme and were awarded for their contribution in media field. Chief Minister in the programme said, the present government is determined to finish works within bounded time limit. Plans have been made for the next 25 years in order to build a prosperous future in Tripura for the next generation and so that the citizens of the state may get an idea as to what direction the state is progressing ahead.

The Chief Minister spoke about the role of media in running of the administration. He urged the media to take experience from the past days before holding the present state government responsible for almost everything. He said, the government is working with transparent policy. For bringing transparency, digitalisation is being brought in the system which has drastically brought positive change in the work culture of the state.

The Chief Minister also said, we need to have respect towards the state’s glory and history which is why the state government is going to organise different programmes for 18 days as part of Tripura Statehood Day 2022 celebration. Prime Minister has also mentioned about the far-sightedness of the citizens of Tripura. Our thoughts determine our path in life.The faith of the people in the present state government inspires us to do more developmental works.

A bunch of development projects are being implemented besides omen empowerment and bringing forth income opportunities for Self-Help Groups. As a result, the SHG based revenue has climbed up to approx. one thousand crore rupees. The state government is working to provide facilities of different schemes to people of the state beyond political favouritism or any kind of partiality.

ICA Minister Sushanta Choudhury in the programme said, the present government is media friendly. Efforts are being made to maintain pleasant relationshipwith the media personnel. The state government has taken some decisions that was impossible during the previous days. The pension of the media personnel was increased from one thousand rupees to ten thousand rupees. Press Jackets have been provided to them for their protection. Bringing media personnel under health insurance and providing housing facility are also being discussed. CBI investigation has been ordered regarding the murder of two journalists. He urged everyone to work for the state’s welfare together. He said, there were some people who stirred commotion in the state during Durga Puja regarding the unfortunate incident in Bangladesh. Yet the state government has handled the situation capably.

Vice Chancellor of MBB University Dr. Satyadeo Poddar in the programme emphasized upon bringing up more positive news in print media. He said, media plays a vital role in bringing change in the society. The Vice Chancellor lauded the media for their contribution and urged them to keep a check that public do not get misled or misguided through any negative news.

President of Agartala Press Club Subal Kumar Dey said, the press will have to take up the responsibility to keep the democracy strong. Only those countries develop where the press has freedom. Secretary of ICA department Dr. P. K Goyal in his welcome speech said, media plays an important role in the country’s democracy. It not only brings forward different development works to the people but also brings forward public opinion and grievances to the government. The present government has taken up different initiatives for the welfare of the journalists. Assistances were provided to them during the pandemic situation.

Seven senior journalists were felicitated by the Chief Minister, ICA Minister and other guests present in the programme. The awardees were Jayanta Bhattacharjee, Sanit Debroy, Manas Pal, Sayad Sajjad Ali, Suman Debroy, Dr. Bishwendu Bhattacharjee and Debashish Bhattacharjee. Secretary of Agartala Press Club Pranab Sarkar and Director of ICA department were also present in the programme.
