A Human Rights awareness seminar at Jampui Hill, Tripura, brought together 230 participants to discuss the state and society’s responsibilities in protecting human rights. Organized by THRC and the Mizo Convention, the event emphasized constitutional values and democratic accountability.

An awareness seminar on “Protection of Human Rights – Duties and Responsibilities of the State and Society” was held on Wednesday at the BAC Conference Hall, Jampui Hill RD Block, Vanghmun. The event was jointly organised by the Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) and the Mizo Convention of Jampui Hill.

The seminar drew a large and diverse audience of more than 230 participants, including representatives of civil society organisations, academicians, social activists, higher secondary school teachers and students, police personnel, and government officials.

The programme began at 10:30 a.m. with a welcome address by Sri Lalnunsanga, Vice President of the Mizo Convention, followed by a felicitation of the guests by Sri J.D. Mawia, President of the Mizo Convention.

During the main session, several speakers presented papers highlighting different dimensions of human rights protection and promotion.

Dipankar Paul, ASP, THRC, spoke on Human Rights in the Context of Policing and Law Enforcement.

Dhan Babu Reang, IAS, Secretary, THRC, discussed Administrative Responsibilities in Safeguarding Human Rights.

Udit Choudhuri, retired District and Sessions Judge and Member of the THRC, elaborated on Provisions, Scope, and Mechanisms for Filing and Redressing Human Rights Complaints.

Justice Arindam Lodh, Chairperson of the THRC, delivered the keynote address, reflecting on The Constitutional Core of Human Rights and Their Relevance to a Democratic Society.

The interactive session saw lively participation from attendees, who raised questions and shared personal experiences concerning rights-related issues faced by the people of Jampui Hill.

Dr. Zairemthiama Pachuau, General Secretary of the Mizo Convention, served as the facilitator throughout the discussions.

The programme concluded with the recitation of the Preamble to the Constitution, led by Justice Lodh, followed by a vote of thanks from Sri B.C. Nunga, BAC Chairman, and Sri A.K. Das, Acting BDO.

On the sidelines of the event, the THRC delegation and leaders of the Mizo Convention conducted a joint visit to Tlaksih village and other sites reportedly damaged during the ongoing NH-44A road construction.

They also discussed the issue of pending compensation for affected landowners under Package-4 of the project. Both sides expressed a shared commitment to addressing the matter through appropriate channels.
