The Mortal remains of Sanjay Debnath and Prasanta Kumar Deb – two Territorial Army jawans were consigned to flames with full military honour as thousands of people thronged to pay the tributes. Sanjay and Prasanta were killed in Manipur landslide in which more than 60 people were feared dead. Already 42 bodies were recovered and officials said 20 more were still missing.
The coffins of Sanjay and Prasanta were brought to Agartala on Sunday and then taken by the Assam Rifles pall bearers to 21 Assam Rifles Headquarters where officers offered wreaths and paid homage. From Assam Rifles Headquarters the bodies were taken to AD Nagar Police ground and were given a Guard of Honour by the Police.
The mortal remains of Sanjay were sent to Bishalgarh , his native place and Prasanta’s to AD Nagar where he had been staying for some years. In both places thousands of people gathered and family members, relatives, friends , neighbours -all broke down. The environment became heavy and gloom descended. Prasanta’s remains were cremated in Battala.He is survived wife and a child.
Prasanta Kumar Deb’s ancestral home is Kalyanpur. Deb is survived by his wife – a police woman herself-and a child. His wife is a staff of Tripura Police.
At Bishalgarh Baidyadighi School ground a Guard of Honour was accorded to deceased jawan Sanjay where locals including politicians and different organizations also offered tributes. From the school ground, his mortal remains were taken to his house where his last rites were performed. Sanjay Debnath is survived by his parents, wife and child.
