High Court of Tripura took up a suo moto contempt of court over Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s statement in the TCS Officers’ Association meeting where he purportedly demeaned the judiciary. However, following Chief Minister’s clarification in a social media platform the High Court ultimately dropped matter and declined to pursue it any further.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice A A Kureshi and SG Chattopadhyay asked explanation from the Advocate General SS Dey regarding the Chief Minister’s speech. In the meantime Chief Minister took to his Twitter handle where he said that his speech was twisted and wrongly reported in a section of media to project disregard to the judiciary and judicial functions. Deb clarified that he holds all the judicial institutions in highest esteem and also that he is duty bound to uphold the majesty of judiciary. Deb added that his speech was published out of context.

It was after the twitter message that Chief Justice AA Kureshi and Justice SG Chattopadhyaya dropped the matter.
