Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Vivek Aggarwal today said that the government is in discussions with digital platforms like Spotify and YouTube to sign MoUs for promoting folk and traditional music. Addressing FICCI’s ‘IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP’ conference in New Delhi, the secretary announced various initiatives to boost India’s creative economy. He added that the Geographical Indication registration is being pursued for traditional musical instruments and styles to protect each region’s unique musical setup. The secretary further added that specialized cells will be established at cultural centres to educate and assist new artists in obtaining IP registration, and exhibitions of traditional instruments will be revamped with thematic displays and audiovisual components.
