Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury said that the state government would soon introduce a health insurance scheme for the working journalists. 

The ICA minister held a meeting with the representatives of various media houses at the State Guest House on Saturday and discussed various matters in length. 

In the meeting, Chowdhury took opinions of senior journalists regarding the health insurance scheme for the journalists and also discussed the criteria for selection of the beneficiaries. 

Director of ICA department- Ratan Biswas and Secretary of Agartala Press Club Pranab Sarkar among others were present in the meeting.

 Later in a Facebook post, Chowdhury wrote that the state government’s decision was a token of respect to the profession and works of the journalists. The journalists and photo-journalists up to the sub-division level would receive the benefit of the health insurance scheme, he added.
