Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari today chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi on the implementation of the nationwide scheme for cashless treatment of road accident victims. During the meeting, the Minister commended grassroots efforts in promoting road safety. He highlighted the urgent need to curb the alarming rate of road accident fatalities nationwide. Mr. Gadkari said, curbing road accidents is a key priority for the Union Government. The Minister stressed on coordination among stakeholders to ensure the smooth and standardised rollout of the cashless treatment scheme across all states. He said the initiative’s success is essential to achieving India’s pledge to reduce road accident deaths by 50 percent by 2030, as reaffirmed in the 2020 Stockholm Declaration.
