GoI approves TRLM financial inclusion budget for FY 2026-27, targeting 4.4 lakh SHG women with insurance, Rs 1000 crore credit flow, financial literacy training, and livelihood support to boost rural entrepreneurship and economic empowerment in Tripura.

The Government of India has approved a comprehensive financial inclusion budget for the Financial Inclusion vertical under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission for the financial year 2026-27. The initiative is aimed at strengthening the financial resilience of rural Self Help Groups (SHGs) and enhancing sustainable livelihood opportunities for women across Tripura.

According to officials, the approved plan outlines a multi-pronged strategy focused on expanding access to financial services, promoting digital transactions, and increasing awareness about financial tools among rural communities. The move is expected to significantly impact the socio-economic landscape by empowering thousands of women associated with SHGs.

A major highlight of the budget is the extension of insurance coverage to approximately 4.4 lakh SHG members, commonly referred to as “didis.” This step is expected to provide a crucial safety net to rural women, protecting them against financial uncertainties and unforeseen risks. The inclusion of large-scale insurance coverage reflects the government’s emphasis on social security as a cornerstone of financial inclusion.

In addition to insurance, the plan prioritizes financial literacy as a key driver of empowerment. Around 2 lakh SHG women will undergo structured training programs aimed at improving their understanding of savings, credit management, digital payments, and banking services. Officials believe that enhanced financial awareness will enable women to make informed economic decisions and actively participate in formal financial systems.

The budget further allocates Rs 40 crore for livelihood support, targeting around 4,000 women SHG members. This funding will be directed towards income-generating activities such as small-scale enterprises, agriculture-based ventures, and local entrepreneurship. The initiative aligns with the broader vision of promoting self-reliance and sustainable income sources in rural areas.

Another critical component of the plan is the ambitious credit linkage target. The government has set a loan disbursement goal of Rs 1,000 crore for nearly 30,000 rural SHGs. This substantial credit flow is expected to boost rural entrepreneurship, enabling SHG members to expand their businesses, invest in productive assets, and contribute to local economic growth.

Officials from the Government of India emphasized that the approved budget demonstrates a strong commitment to inclusive development. By integrating financial services with livelihood support, the initiative aims to create a robust ecosystem where rural women can thrive economically.

Experts note that such targeted interventions under TRLM have the potential to transform rural economies by fostering financial independence among women. Increased access to credit, insurance, and training not only strengthens household incomes but also contributes to overall community development.
